Dunedin Fine Art Center 50th Anniversary Gala (Feb 15, 2025)

I created this piece to commemorate the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s 50th anniversary.

The theme for the DFAC 50th anniversary gala was art deco, but I felt art deco was too architecture centric and I wanted it to be more about the human side of DFAC and what they had contributed to the community. So I reached back a little further in time to art nouveau.

The king of art nouveau is Alphonse Mucha to whom I wanted to also pay tribute.  As a result, I found a photograph from the 1800s taken in his studio of one of his models.  I thought that would be a great way to tie it to him and I made sure to include Mucha himself in the artwork.

I really enjoyed creating this piece and apparently the DFAC team loved it as well.  (See my next post)
