A visit to the Sistine chapel shows just how difficult it is to appreciate the visceral power and sheer scale of Michelangelo Buonarroti's (1475-1564) achievement. This actual size multi-year study allows me to learn from the great master and understand the complexities of working at such a massive scale, with so many twisted figures, often exaggerated, foreshortened and intertwined.
To overcome some of the challenges of this undertaking while also addressing portability issues, I broke it down as shown below. The effort is not intended to be an exact replica but rather a reinterpretation by an admiring artist. Just as Michelangelo labored with a heavy heart so long ago, I look at the state of the world today and sadly find this project eerily fitting to our times, but do hope humanity will make the right choices
